Amy Schlegel, Delta Sigma |
February Alumnae Spotlight
Amy Schlegel, Delta Sigma, was nominated to serve as an inaugural member of the Junior Board of the Alzheimer’s Association-Greater Illinois Chapter. We are proud of Amy and her dedication to Alzheimer’s disease research.
The Junior Board of the Alzheimer’s Association – Greater Illinois Chapter is a group of civic-minded young professionals dedicated to raising awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias to individuals in their 20’s and 30’s. The board is united by a desire to see an end to Alzheimer's disease and with that takes action through events, support and education for the community.
The Greater Illinois Chapter is a new chapter that was started in April 2011. The chapter hosted a kickoff event in July to raise money to support future endeavors, such as education and advocacy. They are in the midst of establishing a peer-to-peer program for people seeking someone with a similar experience, especially in the case of a parent with Alzheimer's disease or dementia. The chapter is creating a website that will have information on the peer-to-peer program and events the Junior Board is hosting or taking part in, including the Illinois Advocacy Day in Springfield, Ill.
Amy is an alumna of the Delta Sigma Chapter, Western Illinois University. She lives in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago, and is employed as a paralegal at Bankers Life and Casualty Company, a subsidiary of CNO Financial Group, Inc. Coincidentally, Bankers Life and Casualty Company is a supporter of the Alzheimer’s Association and participates in the Forget Me Not Days as its main fundraising effort.
