Central Florida Alumnae Chapter
|
The Sigma Kappa Alumnae of Central Florida (SKACF) have found helping people in need to be a worthwhile and fun project. Chartered in 1999, the chapter began with a group of Sigma Kappas gathering socially, but soon became involved in community outreach programs.
Collecting warm clothes, yarn and monetary donations for Sigma Kappa’s long time philanthropic partner, the Maine Sea Coast Mission, was its first endeavor. With a desire to make an impact on the local community, the SKACF approached the Life Care Center of Altamonte Springs, FL to see how they could be of assistance. In no time, shoe boxes of personal items were being assembled, and elderly residents, who had no family members, were being visited regularly and sent year-round holiday cards.
In 2010, the chapter expanded its goals to include the Ronald McDonald House, to help families with children in Orlando hospitals. The chapter plans healthy menus, buys food and prepares meals for 40 people. In addition to these projects, the SKACF also supports the Seminole County Safe House, Canine Companions and Russell House for Atypical Children.
On an individual level, chapter members volunteer at churches, nursing homes and other organizations.
Kudos to the Sigma Kappa Alumnae of Central Florida for contributing hundreds of work hours, monetary donations, clothing and supplies to Sigma Kappa’s local and national philanthropies.
